Revitalizing Mind, Body, & Spirit at The Medical Resort @ Willowbrook
Pi Architects, and Pi Architects Landscape collaborated with McDonnell Construction and Senior Care Excellence to bring the Medical Resort at Willowbrook to fruition. This 59,000-sq. ft. skilled nursing and rehabilitation community features 104 units. Located directly behind Methodist Hospital in the Willowbrook area of Houston, TX, the community provides state of the art post-acute nursing and rehabilitative care.
According to Monica Castaneda, the resort’s executive director, the community’s post-hospital skilled nursing center accommodates healing of the body, as well as mind and spirit. She notes, “The environment, services, and amenities along with our family of associates serve as a community to accommodate our guests. Guests are able to recuperate, revitalize, and prepare to return to their daily lives.”
The Resort’s Mediterranean style is evident in its Tuscan columns, clay tile roof, and cool stucco finish. The heart of the community opens into courtyards and activity spaces. From there, the community splits into four small “houses,” each furnished with its own living room and activity spaces. According to Nick Bruhn, studio manager at Pi Architects, an open kitchen restaurant model allows residents to enjoy watching the preparation of their meals, highlighting Willowbrook’s focus around entertaining dining, adding one more way that careful design builds community.
